Photo Gallery

flowersCome see our Ecology Garden - it's located at the end of Hibernia Street between Legion Village and the waterfront. Map.

We've selected some photos to give an idea of what it's like. See the list of pages with photos at the bottom of this page.  As we get new photos, we'll add pages so do come back from time to time. See also the News page.

Entrance

entranceAt the entrance, there is a welcome sign (right) with the following words:
Welcome!
The garden is an initiative of the Cobourg Environmental Advisory Committee. The sod was turned in the spring of 1996, and the garden has sprung up from there. The aims of the garden are to demonstrate principles of organic gardening - all natural, chemical-free methods; to provide an opportunity for people to gain new ideas as well as to share information; and to create an attractive place that all (humans and wildlife included) can enjoy.

Components of an ecology garden include: soil that is enriched organically using compost, organic fertilizers, path and mulches; native plants and other hardy species that eliminate the need for chemicals and extensive watering; plants that provide food and shelter for birds; butterflies, and other wildlife.

As you enter, there are paths leading you through the natural plantings with plaques describing some of the features.

There are many types of wildflowers growing and several kinds of gardens (left and see additional articles below).

Flowers in the Garden

The Garden has many flowers that bloom at different times of the year - samples are at right.

Many butterflies and other native creatures visit (or stay) to enjoy - just like our human visitors.

Anyone is welcome to visit at any time.
